I AM WALKING IN HONOUR OF My friend, ilke
On 2nd May 2026, I will be doing my 13th New Town Toyota Walk for Womens’ Cancer, to support the life saving research into hard-to-treat breast and ovarian cancer performed at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research here in Perth. My first 3 walks were completed using a crutch, the next 7 with a wheelie walker, in 2024 I used a gopher and last year (2025) it was a mixture of gopher power and my own wobbly turtle legs.
In 2026, I will join many other dedicated walkers as we raise money to keep this vital research going. We walk as a community of hundreds of people to fund vital research and discover kinder and better treatment options so breast and ovarian cancer will one day no longer be lethal.
I plod for loved ones and special friends who have travelled the breast and ovarian cancer journey. Some have won their battle and kicked cancer to the kerb where it belongs, but way too many have lost the fight.
I plod in memory of Ilke who I met, and lost year, for Larissa and for Jackie
I will keep on plodding for as long as I can, for this vital cause.
