Grief Is Just Love, Persevering

in 2024, we lost our grandma. barely five feet tall, but the space she filled in my life is immeasurable. what remains now is an absence im still learning how to navigate. a quiet, inconsolable hollow. the hardest part wasn’t even the goodbye, it witnessing her endure the unrelenting, invasive nature of a disease that takes without asking and gives nothing in return.

a year later, cancer came for our family again- our cousin. she was only 27. full of life, plans, and futures that should have stretched far.

for a long time, i wrestled with questions that had no easy answer: why does something so indiscriminate seem to find the kindest people? what even is the point of being good?

then slowly i understood. cancer doesn’t measure morals. it simply exists.

altruism isn’t a bargain we strike with the universe in exchange for safety. it’s a choice to ensure we impact the world around us in a positive & meaningful way, even in the face of things we cant control.

hence my partaking in a fundraiser to support women fighting breast and ovarian cancer (and every story that sits quietly in between). because what is grief if not love that has no where to go? what is love if not walking 35km in solidarity? and what is solidarity if not donating what you can to a great cause?

Please help me, help the Perkins.
