Cancer is tough, but we're tougher

In May 2021, I’m challenging myself to walk 35km as part of the Women’s Cancer Challenge. I’m doing it to raise much-needed funds for women’s cancer research right here in WA at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

There is so much more to be done to ensure that the women of WA – our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loved ones – living with cancer stay with us for as long as possible. I am training and fundraising in the lead up to the event. I'd be so grateful for your support. If you can't join me (I'd love the company), please give generously to my donation page.

Please help me, help the Perkins.

Let’s walk towards a cancer-free future – together.

My Updates

Finally its my turn!

I have supported my sister in her journey to raise money for this cause for the last 5 years, each year telling her 'next year I'll try and get there to do it with you!'  But each year life got in the way and the 1500 kms between us was too great at the time. This year with only 300 kms distance between us, I am excited to say I can join her in raising money to research  something that is so prevalent in all of our worlds at the moment. It seems as soon as you know one person that this horrible disease has touched, you know more and more people.

At about this time last year, my mother in law was told she had an aggressive form of breast cancer. She endured surgery, chemo, radiation all 1200 kms from home and in COVID times. Living that far from medical help is a risk on any day, but during COVID flights were cut off just to add to her challenge. My family and I supported her in her sickness as best we could, making her favourite chicken soup one week then not being offended when she hated it the next week, helping her arrange scarves to cover the hair loss that made her not want to see her own reflection, and keeping her spirits up by taking her mind off her battle.

She's my inspiration for these 35km. With each step I take I will be thankful for each person that has walked before me and raised funds for research that means that she is past that fight, and looking forward to clear test results from here on.
