Hi friends & family,

On 27 April, my sister and I are taking part in the New Town Toyota Walk for Women’s Cancer. I’ll be walking 35 km for the Harry Perkins Medical Institute of Research and… with a little support from my friends and family (like you!), I hope to raise at least $1,000 for breast and ovarian cancer.

This is a cause close to my heart. My sister and I are three years apart and were diagnosed with breast cancer when we were 57. We are now very grateful go be 9 and 6 years free of cancer. We believe our cancer was treated successfully for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we were able to find our cancers early, thanks to self-detection and thanks to our GPs, who believed our concerns and referred us on quickly. We both required different courses of treatment, but our best treatment pathways were very clearly defined thanks to research and the brilliant multidisciplinary teams working in this field.

When it comes to cancer, it’s hard to know what the future will look like. Each person and diagnosis are so different. What works for one individual, may not be enough for someone else. But hopefully with more funding for research, we can find a way to help more and more people survive cancer.
