Week 6 done - 3 weeks to go

A short week this week at work, only 3 days worked as Good Friday we are closed so I missed out on some kilometers.  However I still managed to meet some team members I am walking with and got a 5km walk done on Good Friday.  I walked 29.34 km  on the 3 days I did work.   Just one donation this week but I have put the poster up in our team room so fingers crossed I receive some support from work colleagues.  Any donations gained is most appreciated.
It was a busy long weekend with family and friends with catchups, too much food and drinks and plenty of Easter eggs but always fun times.
An aqua aerobics class, yoga class and 2.6km lap swim was all that this week allowed.  A couple of the classes I usually go to didn't take place because of the Friday and Monday public holidays.
Hubby and I walked the loop around the Graham Farmer and Boorloo bridges on Easter Sunday.  So many people were out walking and running, bikes, dogs and kids enjoying the river.  It was a great way to start the day and see different things on our walk.

Please help me, help the Perkins.

My Updates

Cancer Stops With Me!

On Saturday 2 May 2026, I'm challenging myself to walk 35km as part of the New Town Toyota Walk for Women's Cancer. I'm doing this Walk to do something big for our mums, sisters, daugthers, friends and loved ones living with cancer.

This year I'm committed to raising vital funds for women’s cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research because the women we cherish deserve to live longer, healthier lives free from cancer.

There is so much more to be done to ensure that women of WA confronting cancer stay with us for as long as possible. I am training and fundraising in the lead up to the event. I would be so grateful for your support. If you can't join me (I'd love your company), please give generously to my donation page.

I don't want anyone to have to hear "You have cancer". Please help me and the Perkins make that happen.

Let’s walk towards a cancer-free future – together.

Week 5 done - 4 weeks to go

Can you believe that its one month out from the walk, aahhh.  Feeling strong this week and my back pains have subsided.  Other body pains come and go.
Two donations received this week from family members. Our team (Team Perkins) is in the top 10 leaderboard for total dollar  amount of fundraising, YAY.
34.57 kms walked at work.  Crazy week in the lead up to Easter, everyone panics that we aren't open on Good Friday so they come in store or order online and expect the goods to arrive before Easter.  Well I say to everyone "your lack of planning doesn't constitute an emergency on my part".  Lots of treats at work in the lead up to Easter, Hot cross buns, easter eggs, chocolates and lollies.  I need to keep walking to walk off the calories gained.  My problem is I can't say no, if its being offered I'lI have a couple of treats.
My gym sessions are still regular attending a Body Balance, Pilates and Aqua aerobics classes.  My swimming today was only 2km.  Our regular Thursday coach is back and breathing is not really a thing with her sessions.  Too much butterfly and minimal breathing laps. always tough but slow.
Lots of family and friend activities this weekend with the 4 day Easter break however I am working on Saturday, fingers crossed its a good day.

Week 4 done - 5 weeks to go

Another good week however my back has been playing up, a bit of pain in the lumber/hip area on the right side.  I thought that Yoga may irritate it so passed on this class this week.  I still managed to attend a Body Balance class,  Pilates class and Aqua aerobics class and my normal swim on Thursday morning of 2.4km.
Still walking heaps at work, there is no trolley person at the moment so always lots of steps to be had when collecting these from the carpark.  I would hate to have a full shift in the carpark but its okay to help out and get those extra steps in. Over the four days at work I have walked 37.06 km.
I have found a great website to help with mapping out a route to walk.  This was helpful for our training on Sunday, still around our beautiful river but at least this way we can plan the route before we set out  and know how far we are walking.  For this weekend I did have a route of 20kms planned but given we are expecting storm like weather I might need to reconsider the distance or even the day of walking.
No donations this week but having reached my limit I'm not as stressed any more to reach it,  Anything I receive now is gravy and very much appreciated.  There is the bonus of winning your shoe size in kilograms of chocolate for all donation made until midnight tonight, Thursday.  Times like this I wish I had bigger shoes... I'm only a 6.

Week 3 done - 6 weeks to go

This week I have been feeling pretty good.  I have received 2 donations from previous work colleagues which I was surprised and grateful for, as well as a large donation from the Perkins team.  As such I have reached my fundraising goal of $500.  There are still 6 weeks to go so there is plenty more time to increase that amount.
Training this week has been a Body balance class, Aqua and Yoga class and lap swimming 2.5 km.   35.11 kms have been walked over the four days at work.  Lots of orders at work this week and many of them have been heavy, I don't do much weight training,  my work tasks have that covered.
Two long walks this week have also gone towards my training 13.3km and 11.08km.  Its so nice to walk along the river, with the cost of petrol its too costly to drive the beach just for walk when there's plenty of routes along the river close to home.
I ended up buying new sneakers and socks so have been wearing these, this way they are worn in for the walk however I got my first blister... ouch

Week 2 done - 7 weeks to go

Since signing up to the walk I'm having a few more conversations with people about doing the walk and why I have chosen to walk the 35km distance.  I am doing the walk for the physical challenge and the chance to help raise funds for research into treatments for women's cancer.
I have also received 4 more donations so I am that bit closer to reaching the goal of $500.  Again I am always grateful for the support I am receiving .  My son has donated with the comment "you better win" which made me smile.  I informed him its not a race but I guess everything is a competition to boys
My training this week has included a Pilates class, Aqua class, yoga session and  lap swimming 2.5km, and  lets not to forget the total amount of walking at work for four days: 36.29km.
I spent a lovely Sunday morning walking along the river with my training partner, 11.75km was the total length.  its quite a bit further we will have to walk on the 2 May.  We have estimated that the total time to walk will be about 7 hours... OMG. we will also have rest stops, food and drinks breaks as well as toilet breaks so we are in for a long day starting at 6.30

Week 1 done - 8 weeks to go

So its been a week since registering for the walk, I have received 2 donations for which I am grateful for.
Training this week has included a 14km and a 5km walk along the river, Body Balance class, Aqua aerobics class, Yoga and a 2.7km swim and not to forget the 34 kilometers walked racked up at work over my 4 days.
Not feeling too bad physically just the normal aches and pains for a perimenopausal women.  During the 14 km walk I could feel my toes cramping, I looked at the soles of my sneakers and decided I need to look at getting new shoes for the walk.  Best get onto that.
Formal training for the walk moving will probably be a couple of longer walks (back to back) on my days off.
Appreciate any further donations that may come my way.
