In 2024 our "Why to Walk' was for all those special women in our lives who in some way had been affected by cancer and specifically Pam Groves, Chris Groves beloved wife who sadly passed away from Cancer in 2023 and to our cherished team member and closest friend Fiona Geange, who herself was affected by this terrible disease. Remarkably, Fi had only finished her treatment a couple of weeks prior to participating in the gruelling 2024 35Km walk, and she literally walked rings around the rest of us on the day! A testament to Fi's courageous fighting spirit and extreme resilience when facing such tough conditions, beating the dreaded C and crushing the 35km walk!

Doing the 35km walk is absolutely not for the faint hearted! It is everything you can imagine it is, extremely tough and requiring a mental fortitude that pushes you to 'keep on, keeping on'! Exactly the attitude that Fi and many women before her, and sadly, many more to come, need to have to fight and WIN against this terrible disease.

In 2025, the Winu Warriors 'Why to Walk' includes every important woman in our Rio Tinto team mates lives that may have suffered or is suffering from the dreaded C.
